A Vancouver jazz trio since 2008
The Kristian Braathen Trio is a Vancouver jazz trio led by drummer Kristian Braathen, with Miles Black on piano and Steve Holy on acoustic bass. Together since 2008, the trio plays original compositions alongside intricate arrangements of jazz standards and contemporary music, shaped by the sound of the Ray Brown Trio, the Bill Charlap Trio and Jacky Terrasson.
Their new album, North of 49, premiered on September 27, 2026 at Frankie's Jazz Club in Vancouver. It follows Kristian's 2015 debut, Tempus Fugit, which was featured on CBC's Hot Air and on Seattle jazz station KPLU.
Based in Vancouver, the trio performs at jazz clubs, private events and festivals across British Columbia and beyond. See upcoming Vancouver jazz shows, hear the new album, watch live video, or book the trio.
